Wild orange is definitely one of the most popular among essential oils and for good reason! It smells heavenly. I vividly remember the beautiful aroma of the orange orchards in bloom during a road trip to Arizona one year. doTERRA actually sources wild orange essential oil from the organic orchards in the Dominican Republic. The orange peels are cold-pressed to extract the oil.
Here’s a few ways to use wild orange essential oil to reap the benefits!
Diffuse everywhere! At home, in the car, at work, and even in health care settings. (Click HERE to check out the diffuser I personally use and recommend.) The aroma can be uplifting while at the same time calming. Citrus oils, including wild orange, have anti-microbial (disinfectant) properties. So while you’re enjoying the heavenly aroma, the air is actually being purified without the use of harsh chemicals. Double bonus. Use a car diffuser to improve the mood while traveling or simply put a few drops on a tissue or cotton ball and place near the vent. Diffusing wild orange at the office can make those long days more enjoyable. Consider placing the diffuser next to a fellow co-worker who needs a mood boost. Everyone wins…follow me? One of my favorite ways to use wild orange is to diffuse it by applying a couple drops to the palms of my hands and then inhaling deeply for a quick pick-me-up. Add ONE drop of frankincense and peppermint for a REAL pick-me-up! After inhaling deeply for a short moment (and thinking happy thoughts), apply the remaining amount of oil to the back of your neck.
There are actually some research studies that show the benefits of using wild orange for stressful situations and for those who struggle with anxiety. (link here)
In addition to the aromatic benefits of wild orange, there are many more uses. I’ll talk about a few more!
Use topically! Massage wild orange topically for an invigorating yet calming effect. Apply behind ears, wrists or to the bottom of feet to help uplift mood. Interestingly enough, some also find wild orange to be helpful with improving sleep when applied to feet before bedtime. May be used in conjunction with lavender.
For children, combine with fractionated coconut oil and apply to abdomen to soothe digestive upset. I like to use with digestzen. (4-5 drops of FCO, 1-2 drops digestzen, 1-2 drops of wild orange) Apply the majority to the abdomen and any extra to the bottoms of the feet. When used in combination with digestzen, it adds an additional oil to help soothe digestion while also sharing the citrusy aroma.
Use while cooking! Wild orange smells so good you could eat it…luckily, you can! I love putting wild orange in my smoothies. It’s great to flavor water as well. 2-3 drops per glass will do the trick.
One of my favorite smoothie combos is Orange/Strawberry:
¾ Cup milk (I prefer almond)
1 Cup frozen strawberries
1 tsp stevia (if you like it a little sweeter)
1 scoop vanilla doTerra protein powder
2-3 drops wild orange
*Add more water or milk to thin the consistency.

CocoMango & Wild Orange NiceCream
2 frozen mangos
¼ cup fresh coconut water
Meat from a young coconut
3 drops of Wild Orange
Blend and eat immediately or freeze for 15 minutes then enjoy!
In addition to adding flavor, you can use wild orange internally to soothe digestive upset. Adding 1-2 drops of wild orange to ¼ cup water is plenty.
Disinfectant and Deodorize– Isn’t great to know that you can clean with a product that you can eat?! That’s the beauty of doTERRA essential oils: safe to eat but effective while cleaning. One of my favorite things about essential oils is their anti-microbial properties…they are natural germ fighting “green” cleaners! As a mother of a little guy with asthma, I’ve always tried to avoid harsh chemicals while cleaning. Technically we all should but when you’re a caretaker to a loved one with breathing issues, you take special note. Spray down everything from the kitchen sink to your smelly yoga mat to freshen and disinfect. Seriously, my friend sprayed her yoga mat and had rave reviews. Not only did the wild orange work as a deodorizer & disinfectant but it provided heavenly aromatherapy too. Use the ratio of 5-6 drops per 1 oz. in a metal or glass spray bottle. Spray the intended area and then enjoy the results!
One word of CAUTION when using wild orange: May react to sunlight or UV rays. Wait a minimum of 6 hours before exposing skin to UV rays. The stronger and more lengthy the UV ray, the longer the wait should be.
